Lord Rami Ranger
Lord Rami Ranger CBE is an extremely successful businessman. After starting life in a refugee camp in India, Rami came to England in 1971, intending to study law. Unfortunately, the government withdrew funding for foreign nationals to study in the UK soon after Rami’s arrival. He found work at a local fast-food restaurant and was quickly promoted as a result of his good attitude and work ethic. Rami was then put in charge of the Brixton branch – which became the top restaurant in the country within that chain.
After being made redundant, Rami moved on to another job – this time in retail – however, he didn’t feel as appreciated as before. Rami decided to start his own business as a freight forwarder, setting up his first company in a shed with a £40 typewriter. Today, Rami is the owner of Sea, Air & Land Forwarding Ltd as well as Sun Mark Ltd. Sun Mark Ltd is the only company in Britain to have won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade five years running.
“When God wants you to win the lottery, he gives you an idea.” – Lord Rami Ranger CBE
Charles Atkinson is a former businessman and well-known boxing personality. Whilst working as a carpenter Charles trained evenings as a boxer, and won several youth titles and appeared in the finals of the National A.B.A Youth Championship. He moved to Germany at 20, and during a two-year stay learned the language and took pro fights in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Russelsheim and Cologne. Later, Charles retired from active boxing to join the police force. He says, “I learned a lot about people and decision making.”
On leaving the Police for a career in selling, Charles started his own building company with his brother, which involved undertaking various Liverpool City council contracts. After several more years in pro boxing and building Charles moved into the retail business, owning two shops as well as running a boxing gymnasium. Granada TV – part of the ITV network – approached Charles to advise and run their “Fight Night” boxing programme. Atkinson produced no less than 10 World champions for Thailand, becoming their most successful coach of all time, including 6 WBC Champions.
